Day 3: Blocking begins– and a picnic in the country!

November 8, 2015

Hey gang! Ryan Bauer-Walsh here for Prospect Theater Company in Gesualdo, Italy!

We are on day three of our International Residency in Gesualdo, and we are already blocking the show! That means we are already at the point where we can start to put this show on the stage! Tomorrow we get to rehearse in the castle in the center of town where we will perform on November 15th! This cast is really fantastic, and everyone is working so hard to make this project come together in such a short amount of time. We had rehearsal today on the first floor of the Zembalo B&B where we are staying. It is a large restaurant that has been built but is not yet open. The acoustics are fantastic– and they asked us to help us name it! My suggestion was Zem-Below (fingers crossed they pick it!). After a few really productive hours of rehearsal we were surprised by our hosts with a visit to their country house for a beautiful meal and a walk through the countryside of Gesualdo. Take a look to see our adventure of the day!

I met this beautiful lady who is our hosts horse. She is so sweet– and she loves to be cuddled.

While lunch was being prepared over an open fire our host took us out into the meadows and vineyards surrounding his country home. It offered beautiful views of the valley and of Gesualdo.

When not in Rome- Hair Flip. I give this a 10. Nice work, Cara!

Then it was back to the house for a meal of fresh pasta, homemade cheese grilled to melty perfection over the fire, and the amazing Zembalo wine that comes from the vineyard behind the house.

After stuffing ourselves silly, it was time to get back to work. We managed to stage a pretty good chunk of the show and then before we knew it– it was time for dinner. Cleaning your plate is good manners– and so easy. We all had a second helping of everything. Gesualdo has been the most amazing host for our production, and they are boundless in their kindness. It is only day three– and we feel like family.

Check back tomorrow to see pictures from the castle where we will perform! It is going to be epic. See you then!
